Stats show rock-solid Semedo is defender Man United need

Manchester United spent heavily last summer to improve their attacking ranks at Old Trafford and it would seem advisable to invest significantly to bolster the back-line this summer, with the full-back areas of the squad looking particularly week.

Question marks remain regarding the future of Matteo Darmian on the right-side and Nelson Semedo of Benfica is a man that has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, particularly due to Jose Mourinho’s links in Portugal.

Progress seems to be being made in the quest to land Semedo as Portuguese outlet A Bola states club president Luis Felipe Viera has travelled to England to discuss a deal with Manchester United, as part of a potential £67.7m double-deal in Manchester.

The 23-year-old right-back has turned heads in Europe with his fine performances and his statistics for the season show he’d be a superb addition to Jose Mourinho’s side.

In 22 Liga NOS appearances this season, Semedo boasts a pass accuracy of 80%, 49 clearances, 48 tackles and 32 interceptions- whilst he’s also proved his capability in attack by grabbing four assists and netting one goal.

With 36 fouls conceded, Semedo’s discipline certainly needs improving but that should be a fairly easy fix for Mourinho and Manchester United, with Semedo having the capability to excel in the Premier League.
